One of the five most popular hill stations in India are Mussorie. Mussoorie is a beautiful hill town in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of about 6,500 feet. To the common people, Mussoorie is known as the queen of the hills. Although the Bengalis pronounce Mussoorie, the name of the place in the local pronunciation is 'Mussoorie'.

How to go-

One of the main reasons for Mussoorie's popularity is its proximity to the Indian capital, Delhi, just 290 kilometers away. There is direct bus service between Delhi and Mussoorie. Mussoorie went on a weekend tour to escape the scorching heat of Delhi. Mussoorie is 35 km from Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Mussoorie can be reached in an hour and a half by bus or taxi from Dehradun. Many people come to Mussoorie from Haridwar (distance 6 km) or Hrishikesh (distance 6 km) day by day, but if you do not spend the night at the hill station, you will not find real happiness. Moreover, the view of Dun Valley from Mussoorie Mall at night is amazing. If you want to go from West Bengal, you have to go by train to Dehradun and then from there to Mussoorie. Once you reach Delhi by train, you can take a bus or train from there to Mussoorie. However, it is convenient to go by bus from Delhi, the bus takes less time than the train. The nearest airport to Mussoorie is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun.

Where to stay

Lots of hotels in Mussoorie. There are also many small and large guesthouses and holiday homes of various organizations. Peak Tourist Season May-June in Mussoorie. Like other hill stations, hotel rents go up and down according to the seasons, and budget hotels also bargain. The higher the rent of the hotels in the mall, the lower the rent. Cars don't run in Mussoorie's mall, porters rely on luggage books.

What to see

The whole city of Mussoorie is as beautiful as the picture. You can spend hours sitting in Mussoorie's mall. Gun Hilltop is the second highest part of Mussoorie. There is a ropeway from the mall to the top of Gunhill, you can also get up on foot. Cannons were fired from here during the English period, hence the name. One Himalayan mountain range after another like the waves of the sea visible from the top of Gunhill.

 

The road around Gunhill Top is called Mall on one side and the road on the other side is called Camel Back Road. Cooley Market at one end of Camel Back Road and Library Market at the other end. Walking on this road covered with pine and cedar is a unique experience.

 

The highest part of Mussoorie is Lal Tibba, about five kilometers from Mussoorie bus stand. You have to go on foot or on horseback. The view of the snow-capped peaks of The Himalayas from Laltibba is amazing.

 

There are several waterfalls near Mussoorie, one of which you must see is Kempty Falls. Kempty Falls is about 15 km from Mussoorie on the way to Yamunotri. You can go by bus or car from Mussoorie. Hundreds of stairs have to be broken to reach. You can take a bath in the ice-cold water of the camp. Bathing clothes are also available at the camp. You can also see Bhatta Falls, (about 6 km from Mussoorie on Dehradun Road, a place called Balta, from where you can walk or drive another 3 km from there, Bhatta Falls) and Jharipani Falls, (about Mussoorie. If you go by bus or car for 5 km, scrub water. If you walk another 1.5 km from there, scrub waterfalls).

 

You can see many more things within five-six kilometers of Mussoorie. For example, if you walk along the Municipal Garden Waverly Convent Road, it is only 2 km, and if you drive the Nag Devta Temple, it is only 6 km. You can see Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, the largest administrative training center in India, just two kilometers from Gandhichak in Mussoorie. You can also visit the house of Sir George Everest, the first Surveyor General of India, named after him, just six kilometers away.

 

Those who have enough time and power on foot can rent a car from Mussoorie to visit Nag Tibba (about 55 km, 10,000 feet, some trekking), Surkhanda Devi Temple (35 km on Tehri Road) ., 10,000 feet, trekking about two kilometers), or Dhanolti (about 25 km on Dhanolti, Tehri Road).

 

Shopping

Tibetan handicrafts and carpentry are used to decorate the house. I saw a single Bengali Rasgolla shop in the library market. You can try it.

 

Remember

The minimum temperature in Mussoorie drops to -7 degrees Celsius in winter and hovering between 4-15 degrees in summer. So you must have enough winter clothes in winter and light winter clothes in summer. And if you take a cheap hotel, you must see if the geyser works.
